Shelter orb is a relic of Lumen, the affinity of order, law, light and protection. It holds an old piece of Covenant-stuff, the substance of the Seal-shards, bound into a globe of glass, and its treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver.
It is used once. Its holder breaks it, and the holder's own kingdom is sheltered for a while. How long that shelter lasts is a convention of the ruleset, shown on the card, not a law the world explains.
Its hunger is its own ending. The orb is spent in the breaking, and its shard returns to Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies. Until then heaven counts it in its holder's Weight, so a lord who saves it for the worst day carries that Weight all Turning.
Some protective relics depend on the Covenant's shelter and stop working on the last day, after the final Seal opens. The ruleset names which ones. Whether this orb is among them belongs to the ruleset, not to this page.
No one knows who made it. After a veteran struck Wen Sarai out soon after she arrived, Daegred, the Sunward made the Newcomer's Grace. Sealborn say the orb holds a little of that gift, for a lord who is no longer new. That is their belief. The Grace rests on the Covenant's first weighing; the orb rests on an old shard and a spirit.
Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies keeps it among the Mnemoliths between Turnings. There is one in each Turning, and no copy is made.
