Blood drinker is one of the restless dead: the natives' dead, stranded at the threshold of the Deep since the Breaking. Umbra reaches them where the threshold presses close to the ground. A mage calls this one up with Summon blood drinker.
All the restless dead borrow life. The Sealborn say this one borrows most openly: it drinks from the kingdom that keeps it and from every foe it strikes. Each turn it takes more folk than most raised dead, as well as mana. It is bound too deeply to be dismissed, and it must be lost in battle. Odrin Half-Core learned that cost in the Age of Odrin: his dead rose, and his living folk faded.
The Human lineages sing that it keeps a living face and that its gaze turns soldiers to its side. It flies, moves first, strikes true at range, and holy light cuts it deepest.
Bloodkiln drake and Mindmaw also eat a kingdom's people, but they are living things. This one is a raised corpse. When it is unmade, its remnant falls back to the threshold.
